There’s no better way to get into the holiday spirit than taking some time to lend a hand to those in need.
And there is plenty of need, even here in our fine community. Find what speaks to your heart in our guide (see below) to volunteer opportunities throughout the region. We’ve compiled a list of charities and nonprofits that make it their mission to help the less fortunate not just during the holidays, but all year long. You’ll find organizations that support the environment, the military, children, the elderly, the ill, the homeless and animals. Think of this list of nonprofits as a place to start. There are many more places that need volunteers. And don’t forget to check out local hospitals, senior communities and care centers, clinics and Boys & Girls Clubs. Local museums and culture centers are always looking for volunteer docents. Also check out volunteer.org for even more opportunities.
